Woodworking on the Prairie

Woodworking students from several classes worked with Westar's Green Team to construct the prairie shelter that our Free State Engineering students designed. Through this collaboration with Green Team engineers and project managers, students gained valuable, real world, hands-on skills as they created an outdoor classroom using repurposed materials.
Woodworking students designed and built bluebird houses for the prairie during a cross-curricular project-based lesson.

Another team of woodworking students constructed native pollinator boxes specifically designed to allow for examination of native pollinator larvae. A variety of questions regarding nesting preferences of native pollinators can be explored with these relatively simple boxes.
