Free State Prairie

Lawrence Free State High School
Engineering Activities
Mike Williams' Free State Engineering students designed the outdoor classroom for the prairie. These students worked closely with engineers and project managers from Westar's Green Team to develop working plans for the shelter which was constructed with repurposed lumber from transmission line poles in 2015.

Engineering students also created plans for picnic tables that the woodshop students would later build for the outdoor classroom.

The shelter is invaluable; it gets a LOT of use!
