Ecosystems of Kansas Summer Institute 2018

In Summer 2018, eleven high school teachers from across the state of Kansas visited Free State Prairie as part of the “Ecosystems of Kansas Summer Institute” (part of the KansasEPSCoR program, funded by a National Science Foundation grant entitled “Microbiomes of Aquatic, Plant, and Soil Systems (MAPS)).  See https://nsfepscor.ku.edu/education/ for details.

The terrestrial part of the ecosystems institute was led by three KU scientists:

Dr. Peggy Schultz, Environmental Studies Program, Kansas Biological Survey

Dr. Jim Bever, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department, Kansas Biological Survey

Dr. Helen Alexander, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department

Free State Prairie is open to the public every day between dawn and dusk. The prairie is located on the NW corner of the property behind the football stadium.  Enter through the main athletics entrance and follow the wide sidewalk around behind the stadium.  At the end of the sidewalk, head across the lawn to the northwest toward the shelter and shed.
